Foothill Flyers - Trail Runs
Pasadena Pacers Philippe's Run |
On the 3rd Saturday in May the Weekend Warriors join the Pasadena Pacers for their annual 10 mile run to historic Philippe's Restaurant and home of the French Dip sandwich, then ride back on the Gold Line. The Pacers also have a 5.6 mile version that starts at the Rose Bowl but is all on streets. Bring at least one bottle depending on the weather. It is a lot of fun and we are always looking for new routes. Bring your TAP Card or buy one and load it with sufficient cash at your first station for the train fare. Get off at the Chinatown station - 3rd stop - and walk west on Alameda 2 blocks to Philippe's. Expect to wait in line for a while if you are in the slower running group. Departing Philippe's, walk 2 blocks west to Union Station. The Gold Line is on tracks 1 & 2. All day parking cost at the Del Mar Station Metro underground lot is $2 with your Metro train TAP card. Some of us start at 7am from the Del Mar Gold Line Station in Pasadena with the rest of the group and follow the 10 mile route for 6 miles on the Arroyo Seco trails until we come to the end of the bike path and take the Gold Line train the rest of the way in. We take the pedestrian bridge across the Arroyo and 110 Pasadena Freeway over into Sycamore Grove Park and turn left. There are bathrooms there if you need it. Exit the park at the SW corner on to N. Figueroa St. Cross over and go up Woodside Dr. to the Southwest Museum Gold Line station. By taking the Gold Line the rest of the way from the Museum Station we avoid the last 4 miles of streets. |

Below is taken from the Pasadena Pacers Face Book page: The annual Philippe's Run is the one Saturday of the year when our training run is transformed into a destination run for ALL Pacers. This event is a blast as we run a straight out distance of about 9.7 miles to Philippe The Original Restaurant in Downtown Los Angeles. This route is a combination of trails, Arroyo Seco Bike Path, and inner city sidewalks. This year's event will be extra special since the 10 Mile Challenge runners will graduate upon finishing the run. Join us for the adventure...change of running scenery, good food, and new friends from fellow running groups! IF YOU ARE A PRE-CONDITIONER (OR ONLY WANT TO RUN 5.6 MILES), MEET AT THE ROSE BOWL at 7:00A. IF YOU ARE RUNNING THE ENTIRE 9.7 MILES TO PHILIPPE'S, DO NOT GO TO THE ROSE BOWL. The route is a bit tricky so everyone should wear their Pacer red t-shirt. There are plenty of Pacers who have done this run in the past and know the route, so stay with them. There will be sweepers but we advise that you run with at least one other Pacer. Dr. Smith will have hard copies of the directions available at the start of the run. If you want, you can bring extra clothing and we will have a bag drop-off vehicle that will bring your bag to Philippe's (thank you Dr. Smith!). 1.
