Foothill Flyers Race Reviews Surf City Marathon / Half Marathon Superbowl Sunday, Huntington Beach, CA. App and info click on Surf City above Julie Miller's report on the Half Marathon: Flyers Pam Rose, Lori Esquivel, Karen Johnson, Bill Dickey and Julie Miller did the Pacific Shoreline Half Marathon on SuperBowl Sunday 2005. It looked like rain but it turned into almost perfect running weather - overcast with a little drizzle - although there was a stiff headwind. Pacific Shoreline has so much going for it - a way cool surfboard shaped, colorful medal, long-sleeved tees, with surfboards on the back, a mostly coastal course - but they just can't get their organization down. Last year, the organizers ran out of medals, and parking was an admitted disaster, with folks waiting an hour to get to the lot. This year, we went south on the 405, got off at Beach Blvd, then went down Main Street and parked at Main and Walnut, two blocks from the beach, and walked a mile to the start - much easier. In fact, this year, the only thing wrong was that they ran out of cups at some of the aid stations, but there was plenty of water if you brought your water bottle. Post-race you can stop at Harvey's on Beach Blvd, right before you get on the 405 for breakfast.. |
