This is an annual club event with past club members invited to join us at the BBQ. Many club members win a Turkey by finishing first in their age group at this event. They also have lots and lots of great drawing prizes given away during the awards ceremony. The 5K course is one figure 8 loop around the San Gabriel Villiage and the 10K two loops. The only real hill is the short block long one at the start. So this is a good yearly bench mark on your 5K or 10K pace. Robert and Maria Vangilder fire up the BBQ grill in the park and cook up hamburgers and hot dogs supplied by the club after the race. |

Julie Miller's Report on the November 13, 2004 San Gabriel Turkey Trot 5K/10K Once again, the Flyers ruled at the San Gabriel Turkey Trot! Cool, drizzly weather and a terrific turnout of Foothill Flyers led to a shower of medals and ribbons for our club on Saturday, November 13, 2004. Our club so dominates this race that the Mayor gave the Flyers a special club recognition plaque. Sharon Pevsner was the first place woman in the 10K. She is now so famous that the Mayor of San Gabriel who stopped by during the club picnic to get his picture taken with her. The club got to stand there too.
As for the course, it's pretty flat, and fast. The 10K does two loops of the 5K. The starts at Vincent Lugo Park in San Gabriel. Only one short, but pretty steep uphill section at the start, but after that, it's basically flat, and residential. Register for the race at active.com or check sangabrielcity.com. Post-race, Robert and Maria always put on a great spread that included grilled hamburgers and hot dogs. |
